Door handles for your home
Door handles are both a practical part of everyday life and an introduction to each room. Discover different styles, materials and ways to combine function with design. Whether you prefer black door handles or brass door handles, you can coordinate them with cabinet handles, knobs and other details throughout your home.
Choosing a material
The material affects both the appearance and durability of a door handle. Popular options include:
- Stainless steel: a durable material with a modern appearance, well suited to contemporary and minimalist interiors. For outdoor use, check that the specific handle and finish are suitable for the intended conditions.
- Brass door handles bring warmth and elegance to a room. Brass is a durable material, but outdoor suitability depends on the product and finish. Arne Jacobsen door handles in polished brass have a warm, gold-coloured appearance.
- Wooden door handles give doors a natural, rustic character. Wooden handles work well in cosy, country-style interiors and older apartments.
- Bakelite: a traditional early plastic used in the black Torpedo handles familiar from Danish interiors since the 1930s. Black door handles in Bakelite create a classic look and feel warmer to the touch than bare metal. Black handles also complement many different interior styles.
Choose a material that suits your interior, but also consider how the handle feels and functions in daily use.
Fitting a door handle
Before replacing a handle, measure the existing fixing-hole spacing, door thickness and spindle, and check compatibility with the lock case. Some handles in our range use fixing centres of 30 mm or 38 mm. These measurements are not a universal rule for newer or older doors: choose the fitting that matches your particular door and the manufacturer's instructions.
Doors with through-fixing holes: where the door, lock case and handle are designed for through-fixings, use compatible through-fixing screws. Fit both sides according to the instructions supplied with the handle, then check that it moves freely and returns correctly.
Doors without through-fixing holes: some older timber doors use handles and roses secured with short wood screws. Do not assume that 38 mm fittings will fit simply because a door is old. Check the measurements, timber and lock case before choosing screws or drilling. Ask a qualified installer if you are unsure, and follow the door manufacturer's requirements for fire-rated or security doors.

Door handle accessories
Accessories can improve everyday use and bring the design together. Choose coordinating colours or finishes for a consistent look.
Door stops help prevent a door from hitting the wall and protect the wall and handle from impact.
Door handle accessories include keyhole escutcheons, bathroom thumbturn fittings and cylinder roses. If you want a door that can be locked with a thumbturn, check both the fitting and its compatibility with your lock case.
The right accessories help you create a door solution that works well and suits your home.
