Messingknager: smuk og funktionel ophæng til hjemmet

Why choose brass hooks?

Brass can bring a warm, decorative accent to practical storage. Uncoated brass may develop a patina over time; coated and plated finishes behave differently. Choose by the actual material, finish and intended use, not by colour alone.

In the hallway

Arrange hallway hooks in a row or use individual hooks as accents. Start by counting the coats and bags you need to store, with spare space for visitors. Coordinate with brass door handles and brass wall lights if you want a consistent finish.

In the kitchen

Suitable kitchen hooks can hold tea towels or utensils within easy reach. Check the permitted load and keep hanging items clear of heat, flames and moving parts. Matching brass handles can tie the kitchen together.

In the bathroom

For towels or robes, choose bathroom hooks whose specifications suit the location and moisture exposure. Lacquer or a brass finish alone is not a guarantee of suitability. Combine them with bathroom accessories and follow the care instructions.

Brushed, polished and other finishes

Brushed finishes tend to have a softer sheen, while polished finishes are more reflective. Neither description guarantees resistance to fingerprints. Compare the actual products in our brass hook selection, including coating and maintenance requirements.

Shapes and styles

Choose simple hooks for a restrained look or more decorative shapes for an expressive arrangement. A larger hook does not automatically carry more weight. Capacity depends on the hook, fixings, substrate and correct installation. Consider how well the shape supports the items you want to hang.

Height and spacing

Set the height to suit the people using the hooks and leave enough room for hanging items. For children, choose an accessible position and assess protrusions and nearby movement; rounded shapes alone do not make a product child-safe. Spacing should suit coats, bags or towels rather than follow one fixed measurement.

Mounting the hooks

Follow the model's instructions. Check for concealed services before drilling and select fixings specifically suited to the wall or other substrate. Plasterboard and solid masonry can require different solutions. Mark positions, use a level if needed, and secure the hooks without damaging them. Check the stated load limits; do not test capacity by overloading. Seek advice if the substrate or fixing method is uncertain.

Make a coat rack

Hooks on a timber board can form a personalised coat rack. Both the hook-to-board fixings and the board-to-wall fixings must suit the intended load. Read our DIY coat rack guide for inspiration.

Care

Follow the instructions for the exact finish. Use a soft cloth and only the cleaning method permitted by the manufacturer. Brass polish may damage lacquer, plating or a deliberately aged finish; do not apply it simply because a hook looks shiny. Uncoated brass may change appearance with use and exposure.
