Belysning til badeværelset

Lighting is an important part of bathroom design. It needs to support everyday tasks while also creating a comfortable atmosphere. Combining different types of light helps you meet both needs.

Choosing bathroom lighting

When selecting bathroom lighting, think about shaving, applying make-up and other tasks at the mirror. You need sufficient, comfortable light that lets you see clearly without distracting glare or deep shadows.

A ceiling light can provide general illumination, while suitable spotlights or wall lights add light near the mirror. LED is a technology, not a guarantee of daylight-like light: compare the brightness, colour temperature and colour rendering of the actual product.

Moisture and proximity to water matter. A fixture must be suitable for its precise installation position, not simply described as a bathroom lamp. Have a qualified local installer assess the location, required protection and applicable rules. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions; an IP rating alone does not settle every installation requirement.

Different types of light

Ceiling lights: These can provide general light across the room. Choose the design and light distribution to suit the space, from discreet fixtures to decorative models.

Spotlights: Directional light can illuminate particular areas. Position it carefully around the mirror so that it does not create unwanted shadows on the face or shine into your eyes.

Wall lights: Suitable fixtures beside the mirror can help provide balanced light across the face and complement the ceiling light. Softer, diffused light can also contribute to a relaxed atmosphere.

Bring the lighting into your interior

Coordinate the lamps with handles, knobs, hooks, door handles and door stops. Similar finishes can create continuity, but check that each individual product is suitable for the room and location.

Colour temperature also affects the atmosphere. Around 2700 K gives a warm appearance; around 4000 K appears more neutral. Neither is automatically best for every task or person. Consider colour rendering, light distribution and your preferences too. Read our guide to choosing a light source.

Care and maintenance

Choose fixtures and finishes specified for the conditions in your bathroom. Follow their care instructions rather than assuming that one cleaning method suits every material. Where permitted, a soft, dry cloth can remove surface dust; limescale may need a different manufacturer-approved method. Avoid getting moisture into electrical components.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for switching off or isolating the power and allowing the fixture to cool before cleaning. Seek professional assistance for damage, moisture ingress or electrical problems.

The right combination of lighting can support a practical morning routine and a calmer evening atmosphere. Plan brightness, positioning, suitability and maintenance together. The photographs are design inspiration, not confirmation that the pictured fixture is suitable for every bathroom position.
