Hjælp til at vælge den helt rigtige lyskilde til din nye lampe

Lighting helps shape the atmosphere and character of your home. Choosing a suitable light source is just as important as choosing the lamp itself.

Whether you have chosen a pendant, wall light, table lamp or floor lamp, check the manufacturer's requirements before buying a bulb. The base, voltage, dimensions and permitted wattage must match. If you want to dim the light, check compatibility between the bulb, fixture and dimmer.

Explore our bulbs and light sources. LED bulbs can provide the same light output as older incandescent bulbs while using less power; the actual saving and service life depend on the products compared and how they are used. Compare the stated lumen output and wattage rather than relying on a general savings percentage.

Bulb shape and appearance also matter, particularly in lamps with an exposed light source, including some Design By Us designs. A decorative gold- or silver-coloured mirrored cap can alter the direction of light, but does not guarantee glare-free lighting in every position. Always check the specific bulb and fixture.

Colour temperature: what does kelvin mean?

Colour temperature is expressed in kelvin (K) and describes how warm or cool white light appears. Around 2700 K gives a warm appearance; 3000 K is somewhat less warm. Choose according to your preferences and the purpose of the lighting. Colour temperature does not tell you how much light the bulb produces.

Light output: what does lumen mean?

Lumens (lm) describe the amount of visible light a source emits. Watts (W) describe power consumption, not brightness. Wattage was often used as a rough comparison when incandescent bulbs were common, but it is not a reliable way to compare different lighting technologies. Compare lumen output when choosing how much light you need.

An efficient LED can produce a similar amount of light with lower power consumption. The lampshade, beam direction and placement also affect how much useful light reaches a particular area.

Intermediate output470 lm
Higher output800 lm

The examples compare light output only. They do not specify the power consumption of a particular bulb or how much light your room needs.

Choose lighting that suits your home

Different rooms and activities call for different lighting. Warm, soft light may suit a relaxed evening, while reading or working requires sufficient light directed where you need it. Your choice of fixture also contributes to the room's style, whether you prefer a modern, romantic, industrial or understated look.

Combine several types of light rather than expecting one lamp to do everything. Pendants can provide general light, while wall, table and floor lamps add light to individual areas. Think about comfort, reflections and shadows as well as appearance.
